Option 6 Inspection Pics
Pics showing what I found when I opened an Option6 trans built by Vince. It has less than 8000 miles on it, the owner wanted it opened because a buddy of his bought an Option6 that died from SMS, as there was no bolt kit in it.
Inside of this one is a bolt kit made of SAE allen bolts with metric nuts, the threads are damaged on install because they press in, so the threads are mangled when they are pressed in. The locking nuts are rendered useless by the washer under them.
The parts were used and rusted, brazilian, or in the case of something like the 1st gear sync ring, not replaced at all. The amount of sealer used was enough to seal about 5 trans, and it was used everywhere.
The amount of play in the diff carrier and output shaft bearings was amazing, the shaft wobbled back and forth. I measured the turning torque of the output shaft AND the carrier at the same time (you should only measure one at a time) and even with both being measured at once, there was not enough preload to even register on an in-lb. wrench.
